(#116) Little Falls Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 8:51 PM

"Little Falls, Part One"

Two updates today from this week. The first part (above) was last Tuesday. I decided to turn left instead of right (the way home) after work and ended up in Little Falls and decided to take a random turn down a steep hill to see where it got me. The second (below) was today after work. I went back. But this time with my bike. Figured since the road was closed in the middle, I'd just ride my bike down it. But it was far too short, so I circled around using the highway. That was way too steep. Probably will never do that again. Felt like I climbed a mountain (actually, I did.. we call them hills although they're pretty much mountains). My old computer sucks ass and deleted every picture I added to it after i came home. Essentially wasting my entire days worth of pictures. Fuck that.

(#108) Stormy Night Saturday, July 26, 2008 at 10:17 PM
Posted By:[scottmhoward]

"Stormy Night."

It's been rainy and stormy all day. It's a shame that I had to work today. Normally when we get storms, they last 2 minutes then it's a nice sunny day out. Driving home from work was like driving into a tunnel. Got REALLY dark quickly. So I pulled out my camera as soon as I got home and took these pictures!

These are my FIRST EVER successful pictures of lightning. TRUE genuine lightning pictures, not just screen captures of videos taken during a storm. There was enough lightning around, and it's night time so I just put it on a long exposure and let the lightning come to me. I didn't take a lot of pictures because the storm faded a bit (there's another wave coming, so maybe more pictures will be added), and the camera kept getting wet from my window sill.

(#102) 2008 New Year's Resolution - January's second collection Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at 5:17 PM
Posted By:[scottmhoward]

"Spring in January."

What does that title mean, you ask? Well, it means that today it got all the way up to 69º! It's JANUARY! In CENTRAL NEW YORK! So I went for a drive and took my camera with me.

Most of the pictures in this update are basic point-and-shoot, but a few of them I tried changing some of the lighting and focus to see what effect it would have. I'm no expert at the manual controls, so I'm trying to practice more and more. I even remembered to try out the panoramic pictures. You take 3 pictuers and it stitches them together. I even took two panoramic pictures and stitched THEM together. It's really cool. Enjoy!

(#101) 2008 New Year's Resolution - January's first collection Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at 2:36 AM

Considering I haven't done an update in this thing in forever (hell, I haven't updated my website in forever), I'm going to use this community to post the new updates to my New Year's Resolution Project.

"I, Scott M. Howard of ScottsWebpage.com, hereby resolve that at a minimum of 2 times per month in 2008 I will create a photo collection containing no less than 15 photos using my new Kodak EasyShare Z712 IS."

So each time I update the site with a new "collection", I will post information about it here.

"Snow on Mary St."

In this update, I decided to try out some 16 second exposure pictures of the snow outside and around my house. I started out in my driveway but then headed up onto my roof. This was mostly experimental. I kept the same camera settings for each photo (with a few "tests" inbetween to check out alternate settings), and only adjusted the manual focus. I can't wait to try out these settings once there's a clear night. get some pictures of the stars.

(#100) Updates to scottmhoward.com and scottswebpage.com Monday, August 6, 2007 at 5:29 PM
Posted By:[scottmhoward]
I have just finished completely removing the domain scottmhoward.com from Scott's Webpage. ScottMHoward.com will become a completely separate website as soon as I can find a use for it. I do not plan to get rid of the domain name, but it will remain a separate entity from Scott's Webpage.

As for updates to Scott's Webpage, I know there haven't been much lately. After completely renovating the website so that it can function completely on its own, I have in effect made the site have no need for me. And since there are no more things to update on my site, the only thing left is to create brand new areas. However, I have been thinking for a long time and have not yet been able to come up with any new ideas for the site.

I have become stuck. I am asking anybody with any possible ideas for a function of scottmhoward.com or for new ideas for scottswebpage.com to let me know. You can let me know by commenting to this entry.

Thank you in advance for any help. =)

(#98) Technical Difficulties Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 11:52 PM
Posted By:[scottmhoward]

You may or may not have noticed that Scott's Webpage has not properly functioned in over a week. This is my own fault.

I recently upgraded my computer from Windows XP Service Pack 1 to Service Pack 2. With Service Pack 2, many problems I had been experiencing on my computer have been fixed. I had also installed the new Internet Explorer 7 which can only be installed with SP2 (I had been waiting to do this for months).

So all seemed well and good. Until I realized that a week later, there hadn't been any traffic to my site. It worked fine for me, so I figured it was just a slow period. When I got to checking the lj tool hits, there wasn't a single one that entire week. I knew something was up. After much testing and trying to find where the problem was (I figured my ISP just somehow stopped allowing all sorts of things to happen), I found that the problem was simply security features in Service Pack 2. Every program that involves the internet has some problem with receiving data. I can send stuff all I want, but requests are rejected.

It sounds like a firewall problem, so I disabled windows firewall, and disabled my stand-alone firewall, but still no luck. When I learned that this problem is usually experienced with windows firewall, I tried opening it to see what the settings were, but it failed to open. the "SharedAccess" service fails to start. I have installed and reinstalled the SharedAccess service, but it still fails to start saying that "the module cannot be found".

So I have hit a road block. I don't really want to downgrade to SP1 because then I'll be experiencing problems again, and will lose IE7, etc. My only hope is to fix the problem. But so far I cannot find a solution. Until I do, it looks like Scott's Webpage will be down. And I can't just host the website on another server, because not only is it all based on php (which most hosts don't allow), but it involves WRITING to a file with php (which is RARE to find in a host). So I'm between a rock and a hard place.

So that's the specific details on what's wrong with the site. If you have any input, please reply to this message...
